The Tropical Forest Trust (TFT), a UK-based non-governmental organization,TFT seeks to transform the international trade in tropical timber and timber products into a force for forest conservation. TFT provides comprehensive information about the origin of all tropical wood in member wood products. TFT’s Wood Control Systems track wood from the felling operation from the forest, to the factory and through every key stage of manufacture. TFT members are based in Europe, North America, South East Asia, and New Zealand. They include more than 40 multi-national retail giants and small ‘high street retailers committed to purchasing only legally harvested timber. TFT carries out overall management of the Tropical Timber Action Plan Programme (TTAP). TTAP is a joint initiative financed by the EU and members of the European timber trade federations in Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK, with the aim to increase the volume of European trade in verifiably legal timber and timber products. On behalf of its member trade associations, TTAP will carry out assessments of existing supply chains to identify possible actions that can be taken by suppliers to move toward the exclusion of illegally sourced raw material, and to the production and sale of 3rd party verified legal timber. This involves assessments of both timber processing industries and forests, i.e. the entire supply chain. |
